U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Training

On Saturday November 15th, Nassau County and Suffolk County staff and volunteers coordinated a joint shelter operations training class at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. This was the 2nd phase of capacity building with our partners in the USMMA. At the end of the 3 hour class, another 300 midshipman were trained and will be added to the roster of personnel ready to assist the Red Cross in the event of a major disaster.

The event was a resounding success and could not have been possible without the hard work and many hours of preparation and planning from staff and volunteers:

Thank you to DJ Rosenthal, Bill Shepherd, Mary Warner Hubschmitt and Marion Trapani for all your hard work.

Welcome Home National Members

On Saturday November 8th the Suffolk County Red Cross honored volunteers who served on National Disasters during this past hurricane season. The event was hosted by Lawanna Campbell and the North/South Brookhaven DAT teams and was held at the historic Huntington Regional office. The honorees shared their experiences, their challenges and their defining moments of their assignments. Their stories were poignant and moving and we are grateful for their commitment to others.
