Disaster Action Team: Take disaster classes to become a member of a regional Disaster Action Team and respond with other volunteers to local disasters to assist families with emergency food, clothing, and shelter needs.
Disaster Assessment: Volunteers are needed after a storm or other disaster to go out into the affected communities and survey the damage. This information is useful in determining what Red Cross services are needed, where, and by whom. |

Client Caseworkers: These volunteers deal directly with clients in assessing their disaster-caused emergency needs and providing the appropriate assistance from direct Red Cross services and referrals to community agencies.
Shelter Workers: The American Red Cross opens shelters in the community to offer temporary shelter to people who are forced to leave their homes because of a natural or man-made disaster. As a shelter worker you can help out with registering shelter clients, feeding, dormitory duties, security, and other tasks associated with operating a shelter.

Health and Mental Health Services: The Red Cross provides health and mental health services to both the victims of disasters and the disaster relief workers assisting them. The Suffolk County Chapter is looking for licensed health and mental health professionals who would like to volunteer to assist during a relief operation.
Communications: Maintaining a reliable system of communications before, during, and after a disaster is a priority in relief operations. If you have experience or an interest in HAM radios, satellite equipment, or communications you could be a perfect candidate for Red Cross Communications volunteer. |

Partner Services: The Red Cross is one of many organizations that plays a role in disaster relief and we work closely with the other agencies during times of disaster and also in the planning and preparedness stages. The chapter needs volunteers who can be liaisons to government agencies, volunteer organizations, labor groups, and other community partners.
Logistics: Assist the Material Support Services team with issues concerning warehousing, transportation, in kind donations, procurement and other tasks involved in preparing for and responding to local disasters. |
